“One of the most rewarding parts has been the shared ownership. Teachers and students regularly help with harvesting, and we have even been able to use what we grow in small food experiences, which makes it all feel full circle. Students take pride in caring for the system by monitoring water levels, checking plant health, and maintaining routines. It has built a strong sense of responsibility and connection.”

“The Gardyn system has become a key tool for helping students see how controlled-environment agriculture works, especially as we connect it to our greenhouse operations and school plant sale. It gives students a direct look at how technology is shaping the future of agriculture.”

Hear from our Gardyners

"Our Gardyn hydroponic system has become a favorite part of our agriculture classroom. We love watching students grow fresh produce year-round while learning about plant care, sustainability, and modern agriculture. The best part is sharing what we grow—our produce gets used by our life skills cooking class and gives students the opportunity to sell fresh greens and herbs at our farmers market. It’s a hands-on way for students to see agriculture from seed to table."
One of the most rewarding parts of our Gardyn is the sense of ownership it gives students. They plant the seeds, monitor the growth, care for the plants, and then get to harvest what they helped grow. Seeing the produce used in our life skills cooking class or sold at the farmers market gives students real pride because they know their work mattered. It helps them feel responsible, capable, and connected to the entire growing process from start to finish."

"We added 2 new Gardyn systems to the classroom in addition to the three we had already to give more students the opportunity to grow their own plants. Students are responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the Gardyns. As plants develop in the Gardyn, they have to be thinned out and are replanted in the aquaponics systems or soil so students can compare growth rates. Once the plants reach maturity, students begin to harvest and try the foods they have grown! This particular pepper plant is from the scientific community that sent this plant to space and is currently growing on the ISS. The students LOVED trying them!!"

"Putting together the system and helping with the whole process has helped my students feel like an important and integral part of my classroom and part of something bigger than themselves. The process has been a success and a positive experience for myself and my students."

Catherine Moore, CTE and Art Instructor, Grand County High School

"In the last decade, I have been thinking about doing hydroponics to grow vegetables to sell to restaurants/farmers markets, etc.  This last fall my wife saw a Blue School Grant for our area.  I decided to write this grant to buy a hydroponics system for my classroom.  I did some more research into educational systems and looked at several, but most of them were horizontal grow on cheap shelving that just wasn't a good product.  I had seen Gardyn online and when I contacted my district office, I found out they were a vendor.  They even dropped off some brochures for me to look at.  I was immediately impressed with everything!  I won the grant and now I have it in my classroom and it is simply AMAZING!"

James Jones, Science/Technology Instructor, Wedgefield K-8

"We purchased a Gardyn to take growing our own food to the next level; the opportunity to grow year round is such a beautiful thing! My boys (1st and 2nd grade homeschoolers) have had a love for planting and growing for years so we knew this option was perfect for our family. We didn’t find out about the curriculum options until after we started growing and we were so excited to formally add this to our current studies. We chose the Microgreens and it did not disappoint. I definitely recommend Gardyn and their curriculums to add a new layer of learning to your classroom!"
